Creation of Océan Développement shipyard, specialized in offshore racing
Océan Développement is a French shipyard founded in 2008, specializing in offshore racing and innovative projects.
With a strong track record in building and refitting offshore racing yachts, the company is notably behind the construction of the MOD70 trimaran series and the refit of the Race for Water solar-powered vessel.
Based in Lorient, our 2,000 m² facility is located at the heart of a true ecosystem dedicated to offshore racing and groundbreaking maritime projects.
A passion for innovation, technology, and performance is deeply rooted in our team’s DNA, along with a strong awareness of the environmental impact of recreational boating on the Ocean.
A true revolution in offshore racing, the MOD70 is a unique model for all crews, designed for fair, one-design competition. Océan Développement is the originator of this 70-foot trimaran, combining reliability, speed, and precision. This adventure marked a turning point for our shipyard, fueling a constant pursuit of technical excellence in service of both higher performance and greater environmental responsibility.

Reducing carbon emissions—both during construction and throughout a vessel’s life cycle—is at the core of our approach. Our ambition: to design a boat entirely free from fossil fuels, capable of producing and managing its own energy autonomously. This vision took shape as early as 2017 with the Race for Water vessel, a pioneer of 100% autonomous navigation thanks to an innovative combination of solar power, hydrogen, and kite propulsion. This real-world experience confirmed that energy autonomy is achievable, but it relies as much on technology as on a new way of sailing. Reducing our footprint requires changes in usage, a commitment to chosen sobriety, and a better understanding of impacts.
